A Special Fence Sale

1971. The Reliable Fence Company’s sales manager called me into his office. Would I mind driving to Lynnfield for a very special fence customer?

My sales area was Hull to Abington to Manomet. This was indeed an exception.

I said yes and got to meet Ken Hodge of the Boston Bruins.

Johnny McKenzie was just finishing up a visit and he mentioned Esposito.

Those were the days . . .

At a performance, people sit in their seats and listen. At a party, people twist and shout and drink beer. If they’re serving beer, you’re at a party. Maybe that’s why they call the place a “Circus.”

A couple of weeks ago, Todd Snider -- no stranger to beer-drinking and partying, nor to playing in such venues -- was performing in Santa Fe at The Lensic. That’s a no-alcohol-served theatre, and definitely a venue for performances. Still, I was nervous enough about his fans that I passed up seats third row center for first row center balcony.

Fortunately, people came for the performance. Nobody got rowdy and everybody was attending to the music and story-telling. I had a great time.
